Kindergarten Enrolments now open for Kindergarten in 2026
A big thank you to Mr Luttmer and the Goodwood team for a great start to Term 3 while I was on leave.
We’ve had a good start to the term with NAIDOC celebrations, Circus Quircus excursions, the PaKT program recommencing and our Winter Sports program continuing.
Last week we also celebrated Science Week. Our 2/3 and 4/5 classes headed to the Sustainability Learning Centre, we hosted UTAS scientists who shared their interesting science-based work with our primary students and we had an open afternoon for all families to engage in fun science activities. Thanks to Mrs McGuire and staff for organising an afternoon of hands on science for all!
2026 Kindergarten
Although it seems early, we are beginning to look towards 2026 and are now accepting enrolments for Kindergarten for children who were born in 2021 and are turning 4 throughout this year. We also have limited places for out of area enrolments. Although our Pre-Kinder program runs all year, it is really important that children and their family start to attend regularly. Our sessions are held on Monday afternoons from 1:30 pm and are important to help support you and your child in the transition to school. If you know a family in our area who is not connected to our school, could I please ask that you pass this information on to them.
School Health Nurse
This week we welcomed School Nurse Isabel Barney to Goodwood Primary. Isabel will be working at our school on Wednesdays. She will initially be completing Kindergarten health checks, but you might also spot her in breakfast club on Wednesday morning.
Book week
This week we have our annual Book Week celebration. This is a week to celebrate all things books and reading! On Wednesday morning we will have our ‘book week parade’ in our courtyard. A reminder that there is no need to go out and buy a costume, rather we encourage families to get creative use what is available around the house!
Kind Regards,
Jaime Allen
Principal
Science Week Excursion - Sustainability Learning Centre
On Monday the 12th of August our Grade 2/3 and Grade 4/5 classes enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the Sustainability Learning Centre in Mount Nelson to celebrate Science Week.
The theme of the day was the universal secrets of natural and digital codes and students were able to choose from a range of hands-on workshops exploring the codes of music, food, and our environment. These interactive sessions encouraged curiosity, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the way our world works, both in nature and through technology.
It was a joy to see students so engaged and eager to learn, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their ideas with each other. Experiences like these help bring science to life, sparking new interests and inspiring the scientists, innovators, and problem-solvers of the future!
Miss Galpin and Mr Leighton
Prep/1 has been learning all about our sky in science this term. We have investigated how the sky is different at night and day, and how the weather can also change our skies.
This week, we took advantage of some sunny weather to go cloud gazing and learn more about the different kinds of clouds we could see.

For the second year, our students were lucky to receive the generous donation of tickets from The Lions Club of Kingborough to watch the performance of Circus Quirkus.
With much excitement, we travelled into the city to the Federation Concert Hall at the Grand Chancellor to see the show in the auditorium. Students enjoyed watching the juggling, plate spinning, acrobatic skills and lots of laughs.
We may have some students aspiring to be performers!
Mrs McGuire

Can you paint what you see?
We have been learning to observe details and represent objects through our drawings and paintings.
This week we had to look closely at a vase of flowers and paint what we see.
This art invitation challenged the kinders to look closely at the object in front of them, noticing the colours, shapes and details. We talked about what they could see as we painted.
What colours can you find?
What shapes do you notice?
Will you use big or little strokes for that part?
This was a challenge because we are often painting in kinder relying on our imagination to create masterpieces, but this time we had to rely on our observations of what was in front of us.
EYLF links – Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners. 4.1: Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination, and reflexivity.

This term students in 1/2 are taking a journey around Australia with Ms McGuire!
Together we have begun to read Are we there yet? By Alison Lester
The book is a story of a family's journey around Australia.
Students are making geography connections to people and places in Australia and the natural, managed and constructed features of local places, and their location, (AC9HS1K03).
Students are developing their understanding of the features of a story, retail events of the story and recall information facts connecting to people and places in Australia, AC9E2LA08, AC9E2LA03.
ARE WE THERE YET?
Mrs McGuire
Neve is an Honours student studying tiny marine plants called diatoms. As part of her studies, she was fortunate to be part of the Denman Marine Voyage on Australia’s icebreaker the RSV Nuyina.
Neve recently spoke to members of the Children’s University at Goodwood Primary School, sharing her journey from a curious child to a scientist exploring Antarctica. Her story is not only inspiring but also a vivid example of how passion, education, and opportunity can lead to extraordinary experiences.
We use a variety of communication platforms - including Schoolzine and SeeSaw - to keep our families informed and engaged. If you're having trouble accessing any of the following methods, please don't hesitate to contact our school office. We're here to help and will ensure you stay up to date with all the latest information and events.
Enrolments are now being accepted for students commencing in Kindergarten in 2026. If you have a child that was born in 2021 who will be commencing at Goodwood Primary next year, please collect an enrolment form from the office.
At our Meet and Greet Assemblies we celebrate the students who have been caught following our Goodwood Primary School Values. If an adult or student observes someone doing something that shows Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect and Responsibility they fill out a Positive Detective slip. The student is shown the slip as immediate feedback and positive reinforcement. The slip is then placed into a big bucket and we draw names out of the bucket like a raffle and then whoever gets drawn out wins a small prize.

Students moving to another school in 2025
Please contact the school office if your child will not be returning to Goodwood Primary at any time in 2025. It is now the responsibility of the parent/guardian to notify the school in writing when their child is leaving to attend another school. This is a Department of Education requirement and verbal confirmation is not enough. Once the school has received this notification in writing the enrolment can be closed so the student can then be enrolled at the new school.
Levies 2025
A reminder that school levies are now overdue and payable at the school office. Flexible payment arrangements for families may be organised with the School Business Manager if required.
Kinder | $150.00 |
Prep - Grade 6 | $180.00 |
Payment of levies can be made in full in Term 1 2025 or by instalments using a payment plan. Payment plans are flexible and can continue throughout the school year.
Families can request a payment option. Please contact Ros Ackerley (School Business Manager) if you require a payment plan.
Levies can be paid using the following options:
- At the school (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- At Service Tasmania (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- Through BPAY (using the Biller Code and Reference on your invoice)
- By mail, forward your cheque, money order or credit card details to the school, with the payment slip from your invoice attached (payable to the Department for Education, Children & Young People).
- Using Centrepay, a service provided by Centrelink.
Families who are supported through the Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) do not need to pay levies. Applications for the Student Assistance Scheme may be made online, or paper forms can be provided at the school office.
School and office hours
A reminder that our gates open at 8:30 am. Students are not to be left unaccompanied by a parent/guardian until 8:30 am when staff are on duty. The office also opens at 8:30 am. Students are to be collected promptly at 2:50 pm. If you will be late collecting your child at the end of the day you will need to nofify the office on 6792 9100.
Student long absences in 2025
If your child is going to be absent from school for longer than a few days a Student Absence Approval Form must be completed by the parent/carer and approved by the Principal. The form is available from the school office.
Late arrivals
If your child arrives at school after 8:50am unaccompanied by a parent/guardian, the office will be marking attendance as unexplained other. The procedure for late arrivals will be as is for unexplained absences in that office staff will be calling the parent/guardian to clarify the reason the student was late arriving to school.
Student Absences
A reminder that if your child is absent from school for any reason that you notify the school office by 9:30 am of that day. You can either contact the school office on 6272 9100 or email goodwood.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
Did you know if your child has 10 days off school per year, that by Grade 4 they are 1 year behind?
The best thing for your child's future is to come to school every day.
Student Medication
Please advise office staff and your child’s class teacher if your child needs to take medication during school hours so arrangements can be made for the medication to be administered.
It is a Department of Education requirement that the following forms must be completed and signed before the commencement of dispensing medication to students: ‘Administration of Routine Medication Authorisation Form for Parent/ Guardian’; and ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation Form for Doctors’. The administration of medication to students is undertaken by Admin staff who will ensure it is taken correctly, details (e.g. date, time, dose etc) entered on the student’s personal medication sheet, and signed by a staff member and witness.
Medication is kept locked in the school safe or safe room. Students should not have any types of medication in their school bags.

Rabbit Infestation on School Grounds
We wish to inform our school and broader community that we are having quite significant damage caused by the rabbit's infestation throughout our school grounds.
Can all visitors to our school site to be advised to watch for uneven surfaces and holes.
We are working with DECYP Facilities for advice to find a solution.
Don't forget breakfast!!
Children should eat breakfast because:
- It provides fuel for the day after a long period of fasting during sleep
- Eating breakfast helps maintain a healthy body weight and encourages physical activity
- Breakfast improves attention span, concentration, and memory which are important for learning in school
- It provides key nutrients and helps children meet their overall nutritional need.
Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge is a personal challenge - not a competition. What's your best reading tally? Can you beat it?
If you figure out what you love to read, reading will be easier - so try reading different things - fiction, non-fiction, comics, poetry, lyrics, essays, magazines, newspapers....it all counts in the PRC.
This is a challenge for all Tasmanian students. it doesn't matter what your reading level is, everyone can take part.
Reading is a skill we need for life. All the reading you do in this challenge will help you at school and at home.
The 2025 Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge runs from 16 June - 24 August.
Staff Carpark & Student drop/pick-up area
REMINDER
A reminder that the carpark at the rear of our school is NOT to be utilised by families. Student and family safety is of upmost importance and this can be a busy space at the beginning and end of the day.
Our carpark has become quite congested due to increased staff at both Goodwood Primary School and Tas eSchool. We are again asking parents/carers to not enter the staff carpark when dropping off and collecting students. The carpark is for school staff of Goodwood Primary School and Tas eSchool and can be dangerous for students. The exception is for those parents whose child/children have a disabled parking permit.
To ensure the safety of our students and staff please follow the information below:
Students are to be dropped off and collected via the Elmsleigh Road carpark.
We thank you in advance for keeping our students safe!
