School Holidays begin this Friday 4th of July, students back on Monday 21st July!
As we are at the end of the term, it is always a good time to reflect on the growth that our learners have had over the past 10 weeks. Growth has been one of our focus values over the term with all classes having regular discussions around what growth means in our school. For our school, growth means aspiring to learn and improving, even when it’s tough. Some examples of growth that children have shared and are on display in our admin area are:
Rosie has grown in confidences by getting out of her comfort zone and trying things like dancing at Montrose Bay High School.
Hamish has grown in his maths and swimming. He has also grown in reading more fluently.
Kali has grown by being more confident with division in maths and using more tone and pace when reading fluently.
Ashton has grown by getting better at writing because he uses ‘sounds’.
Skylah has grown by getting better at writing by saying the sounds to write letters.
We are so proud of all of our learners and their growth over this term!
We were lucky to share growth in learning through our recent learning conversations, reports and evidence’s of learning. Thank you to all families who made the time to connect with your child’s teacher, either by coming into the classroom, or via a phone call. If you did not get to make contact, please reach out throughout this week or the beginning of next term, it is not too late! Thank you to our wonderful teachers for the additional time and work you put into preparing for these important conversations.
Throughout the year we teach our expectations through our school values. Our learners are recognised in a number of different ways – within their classrooms, through our ‘Positive Detective’ awards, value certificates in assembly, positive acknowledgments and the prized ‘Goodwood Golds’ – these are awarded for consistency in displaying our expectations. Next Friday we have our ‘Goodwood Golds reward day’ to celebrate and acknowledge those students who consistently show our school expectations.
Thank you to Mrs McGuire, the SRC and our bKinder ambassadors who are organising a ‘Crazy Hair day’ to celebrate b-Kinder day within our school – all Gold Coin donations are being given to the ‘Make a Wish’ Foundation.
Big thanks and congratulations to Hamish, Hayley and Savannah who represented our school at the all schools Cross Country which was held last week at Simmons Plains.

While we have 1 week of school left, I wanted to let you know that I will be taking some Long Service Leave from this Friday 27th June until Week 4 in Term 3. My family and I are travelling somewhere warmer to escape the Winter! Thank you to Mr Luttmer who will be Acting Principal while I am on leave.
Have a safe holiday and we look forward to seeing you all back for term 3 on Monday the 21st of July.
Kind Regards,
Jaime Allen
Principal
Our school enjoyed a performance by the Terrapin Puppet Theatre called Goldfish.
The performance told the story about a puppeteer telling a story about a society that lives without time. But then the show is interrupted by a great flood. The characters in the show work together to clean up the mess from the disaster.
The performance used minimal props. Instead, everyday objects that people have were used in the performance such as boxes, a ladder, blankets etc.
Find out more about the show by asking your child what the show reminded them of.
In 1/2 maths we have been learning about 'groups' of 2, 5 and 10. Mr Luttmer caught us drawing our groups of on our desks!
Ms April Tinker

Learning in Families Together (LiFT)
Our LiFT open classrooms this term have allowed families to share learning in the early years.
Kindergarten students and families enjoyed creating puppets and ‘play’ using oral language. Families can support children in their oral language development by providing a variety of opportunities for children to listen and talk for different purposes.
Prep-1 students invited families to share games that focus on developing phonological awareness. Singing and repeating nursery rhymes or clapping songs are a fun way families can support children to develop their ability to hear the sounds within language.
1-2 students will open their classroom this Wednesday and 2-3 next Wednesday. Students will share games that are helping build on their phonics skills by connecting the sound or phoneme to the letter of the alphabet or group of letters that is used to represent it.
Students are sharing with families their reading goals as is participating in the Premier's Reading Challenge. The Challenge encourages us to make a personal reading goal over 10 weeks. For more information on how you and your family visit the website

Students moving to another school in 2025
Please contact the school office if your child will not be returning to Goodwood Primary at any time in 2025. It is now the responsibility of the parent/guardian to notify the school in writing when their child is leaving to attend another school. This is a Department of Education requirement and verbal confirmation is not enough. Once the school has received this notification in writing the enrolment can be closed so the student can then be enrolled at the new school.
Levies 2025
There will be no increase in Levies for 2025:-
Kinder | $150.00 |
Prep - Grade 6 | $180.00 |
Payment of levies can be made in full in Term 1 2025 or by instalments using a payment plan. Payment plans are flexible and can continue throughout the school year.
Families can request a payment option. Please contact Ros Ackerley (School Business Manager) if you require a payment plan.
Levies can be paid using the following options:
- At the school (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- At Service Tasmania (by EFTPOS, cash or cheque)
- Through BPAY (using the Biller Code and Reference on your invoice)
- By mail, forward your cheque, money order or credit card details to the school, with the payment slip from your invoice attached (payable to the Department for Education, Children & Young People).
- Using Centrepay, a service provided by Centrelink.
Families who are supported through the Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) do not need to pay levies. Applications for the Student Assistance Scheme may be made online, or paper forms can be provided at the school office.
School and office hours
A reminder that our gates open at 8:30 am. Students are not to be left unaccompanied by a parent/guardian until 8:30 am when staff are on duty. The office also opens at 8:30 am. Students are to be collected promptly at 2:50 pm. If you will be late collecting your child at the end of the day you will need to nofify the office on 6792 9100.
Student long absences in 2025
If your child is going to be absent from school for longer than a few days a Student Absence Approval Form must be completed by the parent/carer and approved by the Principal. The form is available from the school office.
Late arrivals
If your child arrives at school after 8:50am unaccompanied by a parent/guardian, the office will be marking attendance as unexplained other. The procedure for late arrivals will be as is for unexplained absences in that office staff will be calling the parent/guardian to clarify the reason the student was late arriving to school.
Student Absences
A reminder that if your child is absent from school for any reason that you notify the school office by 9:30 am of that day. You can either contact the school office on 6272 9100 or email goodwood.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
Did you know if your child has 10 days off school per year, that by Grade 4 they are 1 year behind?
The best thing for your child's future is to come to school every day.
Student Medication
Please advise office staff and your child’s class teacher if your child needs to take medication during school hours so arrangements can be made for the medication to be administered.
It is a Department of Education requirement that the following forms must be completed and signed before the commencement of dispensing medication to students: ‘Administration of Routine Medication Authorisation Form for Parent/ Guardian’; and ‘Administration of Prescribed Medication Authorisation Form for Doctors’. The administration of medication to students is undertaken by Admin staff who will ensure it is taken correctly, details (e.g. date, time, dose etc) entered on the student’s personal medication sheet, and signed by a staff member and witness.
Medication is kept locked in the school safe or safe room. Students should not have any types of medication in their school bags.

Rabbit Infestation on School Grounds
We wish to inform our school and broader community that we are having quite significant damage caused by the rabbit's infestation throughout our school grounds.
Can all visitors to our school site to be advised to watch for uneven surfaces and holes.
We are working with DECYP Facilities for advice to find a solution.
At our Meet and Greet Assemblies we celebrate the students who have been caught following our Goodwood Primary School Values. If an adult or student observes someone doing something that shows Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect and Responsibility they fill out a Positive Detective slip. The student is shown the slip as immediate feedback and positive reinforcement. The slip is then placed into a big bucket and we draw names out of the bucket like a raffle and then whoever gets drawn out wins a small prize.

Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge is a personal challenge - not a competition. What's your best reading tally? Can you beat it?
If you figure out what you love to read, reading will be easier - so try reading different things - fiction, non-fiction, comics, poetry, lyrics, essays, magazines, newspapers....it all counts in the PRC.
This is a challenge for all Tasmanian students. it doesn't matter what your reading level is, everyone can take part.
Reading is a skill we need for life. All the reading you do in this challenge will help you at school and at home.
The 2025 Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge runs from 16 June - 24 August.
Staff Carpark & Student drop/pick-up area
REMINDER
A reminder that the carpark at the rear of our school is NOT to be utilised by families. Student and family safety is of upmost importance and this can be a busy space at the beginning and end of the day.
Our carpark has become quite congested due to increased staff at both Goodwood Primary School and Tas eSchool. We are again asking parents/carers to not enter the staff carpark when dropping off and collecting students. The carpark is for school staff of Goodwood Primary School and Tas eSchool and can be dangerous for students. The exception is for those parents whose child/children have a disabled parking permit.
To ensure the safety of our students and staff please follow the information below:
Students are to be dropped off and collected via the Elmsleigh Road carpark.
We thank you in advance for keeping our students safe!
Think Before You Drink
Here are some health benefits for children to drink water over having drinks that have added sugars:
- It helps to develop healthy habits for life.
- Makes children calmer and more focussed.
- Provides no liquid calories, reducing hunger before meals.
- Is linked to healthy body weight, reduced risk of dental cavities, and improved brain function.
